Having the opportunity to learn in simulated interactive environments, where practice can be made without suffering consequences, aims to increase the effectiveness and quality of the learning that users of this type of system receive. Training is oriented to the immersion of the user in situations that may not be usual, but in their activity, they must be prepared to face. A digital scenario is full of cases that in a real environment would be very costly or complicated to replicate.

The world of logistics and international transport has been evolving through different projects and new didactic tools integrated into the area. The TechLog project is an example of this beneficial but ambitious challenge, to train and develop the professional skills of those who will be or are part of an important group within international trade.

The TECHLOG team, consisting of the University of Cagliari and the port communities of Italy, Egypt, Spain, Lebanon, and Tunisia, has concentrated its efforts from the start on developing a technology transfer network to support this type of venture. We are stronger together. The attitude that has allowed us to amass accomplishments and standardize quality processes, notably in transportation and the individuals that comprise these freight transport groups inside the logistics chain.

In many cases this type of project is not possible without the support of all those involved, we must think that many communities do not have the capital or opportunities to implement this type of living lab. And this is the basis of the importance of forming this type of cooperation agreement and project. This goes far beyond technology, it provides support to develop highways of interconnection and development of countries.

How much does a Truck Simulator cost?

After a market research we found a simulator looks like part of a truck cabin with a realistic seat,  controls, and a 360-degree view simulated by high-resolution screens. The technology can cost up  to $350,000 - out of the reach of most operators and smaller fleets.

TRUCK SIMULATOR IMMERSIVE VISUAL SYSTEM

A range of truck models, engine performances, transmission configurations, differentials, and payloads is provided. The simulator reproduces realistic vehicle behaviors under different loading conditions and replicates the effects of gravity during hill driving.

The manufacturers state that the station is designed for ease of use by non-technical personnel to create a training environment where the instructor can concentrate on the training objectives and the learner’s performance. Instructors can select the type of vehicle, load scenarios from the library, control objects, hazards, and traffic control devices, initiate vehicle malfunctions, and operate all simulator control tools at a click of the mouse.

And this is just a small part of all the technology available, let's try to imagine all the benefits it would bring to the sector if many more people had access to it. The TECHLOG project is on a mission to make this a reality throughout the Mediterranean so stay tuned to find out more about all activities we have in store!

The TECHLOG project takes great pride in its team of knowledgeable, cross-disciplinary professionals from five different Mediterranean countries, all of whom are striving to develop linkages between academics and the (trans)port business, namely transport inside port areas, in the region. Stay tuned as we reveal the different options and fantastic initiatives that TECHLOG has in store to assist in the achievement of uniform quality standards for transport and port specialist workers in the Mediterranean.
