On last 27th of May and 1st of June, a group of students of the Arzachena Hotel Management School (Sassari, Sardinia, Italy) attended a two days learning session on the “enhancement of the artisanal salt”.

The learning experience has been realized in the framework of a vocational project coordinated by Teacher Fabrizio Piras with the aim to spread the knowledge about the world of salt and all its possible enhancement strategies, especially by taking into account the future professionals who will be directly involved in the tourism sector (restaurateurs, chef, pastry chef, receptionists, etc). The activities were realized also with the collaboration of Giacomo Del Chiappa, Marketing Professor at Management and Economic Sciences Department at Sassari University, in charge of the Scientific Coordination of the ENI CBC Med project MedArtSal project led by CUEIM (with a specific focus on the output activities related to “Sustainable Tourism and territorial marketing”).

During the first day, the students discussed about the topic with Giacomo Del Chiappa, currently in charge of Bachelor’s degree Course in Economics and Management of Tourism and of the Master’s degree Course in Innovation Management for Sustainable Tourism at the site of Olbia. The Professor, contributed to the debate also by explaining and underlining the main aspects detected by the MedArtSal project.

During the second day, the students had the chance to test what they learned by visiting the Contivecchi - FAI Salina in Cagliari. The visit was organized with the aim to make them know about the story and the development perspectives of that saltwork.

This second experience saw also the participation of Stefania Denurra, Chemistry Teacher at the Arzachena Hotel Management School. The visit was a success, rich in exchange and reflection opportunities for the young students, which took the advantage of the activities realized at school to confront with the very professional staff of the saltwork. In addition, they better understand the activities carried on to valorize the saltwork in a sustainable way and according to a touristic approach. 

The project has been a good occasion to systematize the relations developed through the MedArtSal project and to explore its possible outcomes in the tourism sector, through an inspiring exchange with young promising professionals in close contact with the territory.
