FISH MED NET Italian partner leads Capraia Smart Island, the festival of sustainable fishery value chains
Fishery and aquaculture, as many other productive sectors, had to face the problem of environmental sustainability in recent decades, with significant effects on the economic and social sustainability of the activity itself. On the first day of the "Capraia Smart Island - Sustainable Fish Industry" on 23 September one of the FISHMEDNET Italian partners, Legacoop Agroalimentare, will share an Atlas of good practices for sustainable fishery and aquaculture chains.
"Legacoop Agroalimentare is committed in its responsibility to contribute to a sustainable development that is consistent with the expectations of offering a cleaner planet to the younger generations while preserving the sector"
"A geo-referenced collection of good practices in the fishing and aquaculture sectors in Italy will be introduced" says Sofia Mannelli, president of Bionet Green Chemistry that organized the event with Legacoop Agroalimentare. "It responds to the need to inform about the excellent capabilities of companies operating in the fishing and aquaculture sectors to adapt their production processes to the ecological transition, in line with the European Union Green Deal and Farm to Fork Strategy" she adds.
The fish supply chain is committed to become sustainable, overcoming the 21st century challenges on climate changes and resources availability. For this reason, the "Capraia Smart Island - Sustainable Fish Supply Chain" initiative is an event dedicated to sustainable innovation in the seafood supply chain, promoted and organized by Legacoop Agroalimentare in synergy with Bionet Green Chemistry. It is a three-day event aimed at sector stakeholders to disseminate good practices, methods, technologies and innovations to combine the renewal of the entire fish supply chain with sustainability. The event will take place from 23 to 25 September 2021 on the Island of Capraia, in the province of Livorno (Italy), and will be organized in a hybrid form: in presence on the island and with remote interventions. It will be broadcast in live streaming on dedicated channels.
The event will be structured as follows:
• 23 September - "Fish: the importance of good practices";
• 24 September - “Lab Fish Industry: from Ideas to Design” - Presentation of innovative projects";
• 25 September - "State of the art on the revision of EU legislation on fisheries control".
This edition will be dedicated to Giuseppe Fanizza, former President of the Ionian Fishermen Cooperative, with whom we shared the same sincere passion for the sea and for its defense.
