The Egyptian Regional Alliance for Innovation Transfer (RAIT) started its activities on May 5th 2021, in the framework of its Kick-off Meeting. The meeting was held online due to pandemic restrictions and it was led by the two Egyptian INTECMED partners: Sekem Development Foundation (SDF) and the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA).

As it was explained by Mrs Margreet Magdy, project manager at SDF, the Egyptian RAIT aims to be a group of individuals working together to support the Egyptian entrepreneurial and innovative ecosystem through INTECMED’s Business Readiness Innovation Mechanism (BRIM). Margreet also stated that the Egyptian RAIT would include representatives of the 4 regional helixes, such as scientific, entrepreneurial, policymaking and citizens, although it does not define or narrow anyone’s contribution to the group.

The support needed from the RAIT members will be in the form of advisory, consultation and co-implementation of activities. In addition, the main responsibility of the group would be innovation discovery, idea assembly, as well as boosting and managing the Regional Innovation Facility Point (RIFP), which will be supervised and operated by Sekem in Alexandria.

Representatives from important Egyptian entities were present at the meeting, such as the Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development, the AAST Center of Entrepreneurship, the National Bank of Egypt, the Egyptian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA), besides the Sekem Development Foundation (SDF) and the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations (CEEBA).

It was agreed that the next steps would be to have the Memorandum of Understanding signed by all the partners and the design of the RFIP in July 2021.
