After two weeks of hard work, the young participants in the practical field training workshop, organised by the Association of Environmental Education (AERE), devoted to the built heritage of the city of Hammamet, handed in their copy on Sunday 19 September 2021.

In Dar Sebastian, in front of a large and captivated audience, and in the presence of the partners of AERE, representatives of the local community, civil society and the press, the actors of the workshop (participants and supervisors) on the "Design of a guide to heritage buildings in Hammamet", have returned the results of 2 weeks of work, from 5 to 19 September 2021.

At the end of the workshop, the participants were applauded and did not hide their emotion and pride in having provided concrete answers to the questions of knowledge, protection and enhancement of the ordinary built heritage of the city of Hammamet. The main results expected from this workshop were the elaboration of a selective inventory of the heritage, the production of communication supports and finally the realisation of a guide of the ordinary built heritage of Hammamet.

The result was really good. It is an exhibition comprising 18 panels, each dealing with a different building, both historically and architecturally, with an artistic layout worthy of professionals. The texts in Arabic and French are accompanied by photos and illustrations: pen sketches, watercolours and drawings.

In the room, listening to them and browsing through their beautiful exhibition, we had the impression of travelling through the history of Hammamet from the foundation of its Citadel in the 9th century to the inauguration of the Yasmina Hotel in 1969, while passing through the construction of the great Mosque in the Hafsid era, the Hammam Belghith in the 17th century, or the vast group of administrative buildings, secular schools and mansions dating back to the colonial era (1881-1956).

In addition to the professional and technical skills acquired, the workshop gave participants the opportunity to learn more about vernacular architecture, the environment, painting, photography and video, conducting field surveys, drawing up inventory sheets, translation, collaborative work, conflict management, listening, time management, public communication, etc. All these skills will be useful to them in the future. All these skills will be useful throughout their lives.
