The InnovAgroWoMed project team in Tunisia, represented by the local Project Manager, the Value Chain expert, and the Communication Team Leader accompanied by the Director of the Rural Women's Support Office at the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulic Resources and Fisheries, made a field visit last week to Zarzis at the Governorate of Médenine, one of the regions targeted by the InnovAgroWoMed project in Tunisia.

This field visit was part of the process of validating of the selected value chains and  the training model on which the research teams have been working over the past months (fisheries in Medenine & cheese products in Beja). The visit was also part of the project's efforts to create the local stakeholders’ network.

Meeting with public institutions at local level: Employment office and Municipality of Zarzis

The project team met with the Director of the  Employment Office in Zarzis and with the representatives of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Zarzis . The InnovAgroWoMed Project activities and approachs in Medenine were presented. The potential to establish a partnership with each one of them was discussed and welcomed.

The partnership will aim at promoting the project, disseminating the call for participation for the training and coaching programs, constituting the selection committee and the local stakeholders’ network as well as at linking the project beneficiaries in Medenine to the Tunisian Government incitation regarding employment of NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training women).

Meeting with “Manar Thon”, a private company in Zarzis-Tunisia 

The project Team met also the biggest company in the region, specialized in the production and canning of fishery products, such as sardines and tuna: “Manar Thon”.

The team was received by the managers and the employees of the company. The InnovAgroWoMed Training Model was presented by the project team and welcomed by the company.

Specific issue related to women employment conditions and requested skills was discussed and the interest to hire qualified workers was confirmed.  

The company confirmed their interest to join the project stakeholders’ network; a memorandum of understanding will be signed in the coming days.  

This field visit was an opportunity to establish direct links with local actors and to move on to a new stage where the InnovAgroWoMed project is preparing for an effective transition to the field, through various activities such as the selection of women beneficiaries, the organization of training and coaching sessions in relevant topics such as corporate culture, Business development skills, digital branding, communication, technical training and many other activities that will be launched after months of preparatory work behind the scenes in the four partner countries (Italy, Spain, Tunisia, Palestine).

Another filed visit is scheduled for the upcoming days to enrich the local stakeholders’ network. A Meeting with the Zarzis Professional Training Center and Civil Society Organizations will be organized.
