During the month of September our four strategic partners Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (TCNR) in Lebanon, Amici della Terra Italia  in Italy, The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) in Jordan, and Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTM) in Tunisia completed a training event around “The Use of Innovative Tools to Tackle the Incorporation Of Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) Into Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Processes.

The objective of the training is to introduce innovative methods and tools which make EB-ICZM much easier to apply for the professional team, the stakeholders, and the decisionmakers involved. These innovative methods and tools have been developed by PROGES, the MED4EBM technical and methodological Partner, and are integrated in the PROGES Integrated Spatial Planning package (www.progesconsulting.it/ISP.aspx).

The training presents a software application of methodological tools, to plan, implement and monitor EBM through a participatory and evidence-based approach. This will help the planning team and relent stakeholders to identify and quantitatively assesses the relationships between ecosystem components, functions and services, along with the associated human activities, toward the establishment of a multi-stakeholders ICZM scheme.

The software will establish one Ecosystem-Based ICZM Decision Support Systems (EB-ICZM-DSS) along with applicable methodological protocol which consists of five easy-to-apply progressive steps to handle the complex multi-stakeholders’ analytical processes that characterize EB-ICZM applications.

The Lead Trainer is the EBM Methodological Coordinator of the MED4EBM Project, Mr Francesco Falcetta, PhD . 27 trainees from the four partners participated in the training.
