BESTMEDGRAPE: supporting the innovative exploitation of by-products from winemaking

Objective

BESTMEDGRAPE aims at supporting the creation of new start-ups/SMEs by transferring scientific/technological knowledge on local grape cultivars and the exploitation of wine by-products as a source of bioactive compounds that can be transformed into innovative commercial health products. Hence, the project will not only valorise a Mediterranean product - grape - but also the expansion of the grape value chain through the development of nanotechnological cosmeceutical and nutraceutical products, thus boosting the local economy, reducing environmental pollution and increasing employment opportunities.

Potential beneficiaries

Aspiring entrepreneurs with innovative ideas for the exploitation of grape waste from winemaking. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. At the deadline of the calls, they must be in possession of the 1st grade secondary school diploma to be admitted to the selection.

€250,000 (50 vouchers of €5,000 each)

Actions to be carried out with the sub-grants

The selected potential entrepreneurs must use the vouchers exclusively to cover the costs related to services aimed at developing their business idea.

Selection criteria and award procedure

A public call for the selection of 30 potential entrepreneurs per country (150 in total) will be published. The selected entrepreneurs will be admitted to a technological transfer process and mentorship and support for business creation, including courses, living labs, networking days in Tunisia, where the 150 entrepreneurs will meet. At the end of the business support process, an evaluation committee will award 50 vouchers (10 in each country) to 50 potential entrepreneurs.

To participate in the award of the vouchers, the applicants will have to:
•    Attend at least 80% of the hours scheduled for the living labs
•    Attend at least 80% of the hours scheduled for business creation
•    Have successfully passed the living labs quizzes
•    Deliver a pitch about their business idea during the networking days in Tunisia.
