The objective of the ARTOLIO sub-grant procedure is calling upon local farmers and millers to participate in a regional pilot project to increase olive oil yield and quality. The goal of this pilot is to unequivocally show that introducing new technologies for better monitoring of the extraction process, up to date agronomical practices such as optimal irrigation regiments, adequate fertilization of the olive grove, ideal harvesting practices, and correct handling of fruit from extraction process to the storage of olive oil in mills will substantially increase the yield and quality of olive oil. The pilot will modulate the two main branches of the olive oil industry, the olive grove and the olive mills, where quality and quantity are most susceptible for improvements by allocating funds to small businesses farmers, and millers.These improvements will give this most needed push for these businesses to strengthen and broaden their hold in the current niche market and to infiltrate new markets and fulfil the business's full economic potential by the means of the new forthcoming ARTOLIO’s platform and finding the root toward their sustainability.

To be eligible for a grant, the applicants must:

• Own an olive grove of a minimum of 1 hectare of unirrigated trees with a nearby connection to a water source.
• Own an olive oil mill and prepare to commercial improvements and sales.

Receiving funds from this grant will legally bind the beneficiaries to work in collaboration and under close guidance with the team from the native olive regional knowledge center (NOReKC).

• The applicant must coordinate and show business transparency, cooperation ability and economic capacity building potential with the NOReKC and share all data from his/her farm/mill.
• Guidance will include agronomic and economic support, as well as marketing of small businesses guidelines and economic and business cooperation to help the business succeed in this intransitive industry.

University of Corsica (France) - 6 sub-grants of 11,667 € each (for olive farmers) and 1 sub-grant of 10,000 € each (for olive millers).

Eligible actions for olive grove farmers: installing irrigation and fertilization system for 1-2 hectares and/or other instrumental tools for measuring olive grove vitality such as water availability and quality, respiration and nutritional deficiencies by leaves and soil testing and/or all other data analysis that will contribute to improving oil yield and quality.

Eligibility actions for olive oil millers: monitoring machines such as temperature sensors, oil quality sensors, and olive mill efficiency equipment.

Eligible actions for both growers and millers in maintaining business: adapt an ongoing improvement process within management, business procedures and decision-making. 

The sub-grants call for applicants will be published in the local media in the local language. Sub-grant applicants are invited to submit an application using the model of application form annexed. Applicants must apply in the local language. Hand-written applications will not be accepted.
Please note that only the application form and the published annexes which have to be filled in will be evaluated. It is therefore of utmost importance that these documents contain ALL the relevant information concerning the action. Completed organization data forms have to be submitted as well for the applicant.
