ARTOLIO: supporting small olive oil producers across the Mediterranean

Objective

The objective of the ARTOLIO sub-grant procedure is calling upon local farmers and millers to participate in a regional pilot project to increase olive oil yield and quality. The goal of this pilot is to unequivocally show that introducing new technologies for better monitoring of the extraction process, up to date agronomical practices such as optimal irrigation regiments, adequate fertilization of the olive grove, ideal harvesting practices, and correct handling of fruit from extraction process to the storage of olive oil in mills will substantially increase the yield and quality of olive oil. The pilot will modulate the two main branches of the olive oil industry, the olive grove and the olive mills, where quality and quantity are most susceptible for improvements by allocating funds to small businesses farmers, and millers. These improvements will give this most needed push for these businesses to strengthen and broaden their hold in the current niche market and to infiltrate new markets and fulfil the business's full economic potential by the means of the new forthcoming ARTOLIO’s platform and finding the root toward their sustainability.
