The national delegations of the 14 participating countries* will meet in Amman (Jordan) on the 4th and 5th of December 2019 on the occasion of the sixth meeting of the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC), the decision-making body of the Programme.

The members of the JMC  will approve the list of pre-selected proposals under the call for strategic projects, closed in July 2019. A total of 198 grant applications were submitted, in response to some of the key socio-economic and environmental challenges shared at Mediterranean level, including business development, social inclusion and climate change. The budget of the call is €68.5 million.

In addition, the Joint Monitoring Committee will review the state of play of the ongoing 41 projects worth €110 million. These projects, which gather over 280 organisations among Ministries, universities, local authorities and NGOs, focus on start-ups, sustainable tourism, commercialisation of research results, employment, water efficiency, waste management and renewable energy.

Finally, the main activities planned for next year, as well as the post-2020 perspectives for cross-border cooperation in the Mediterranean area will also be discussed.

The meeting will be open by H.E. Mrs Maria Hadjitheodosiou, Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, and H.E. Eng. Nayef A. Bakheet, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA). ASEZA hosts the ENI CBC Med Branch Office which supports the dissemination of the Programme opportunities and the implementation of the funded projects in the Eastern Mediterranean area.
