On 25^th of November 2020, Co-Evolve4BG attended the 11^th Transnational seminar for Mediterranean & Black Sea Flags, organised by FARNET (fisheries areas network) in an online format.

The seminar focused on some of the common challenges faced in these sea basins such as the viability and sustainability of fisheries, aquaculture and tourism in Mediterranean and Black Sea, as well actions FLAGs can foster to protect the marine eco-systems they depend on.

The event aimed at raising the capacity of FLAGs to develop and implement effective local projects that respond to stimulate exchange, learning, cooperation and promote new funding opportunities.

In this framework, The Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer (INSTM), the lead beneficiary of Co-Evolve4BG project, presented the objectives of MedCoast4BG with a specific emphasis on the related projects CO-EVOLVE and Co-Evolve4BG. During the intervention, Béchir Bejaoui, highlighted the importance of the synergy between these two projects, under the large umbrella of MedCost4BG. Also, the Co-Evolve4BG coordinator mentioned some activities and expected results of the project and the participatory process that involves local communities for developing sustainable tourism in the seven pilot areas. The seminar was a great opportunity to exchange and build new opportunities with other initiatives and countries.

Additionally, the year 2020 celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona Process, launched in 1995 to strengthen such relations between Europe and the Southern Mediterranean countries. During these 25 years, hundreds of initiatives have served as examples of this commitment in action: from large scale international projects to local initiatives, a consolidated network of cooperation has gradually developed and directly impacted of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. On this occasion, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) has decided to give a special focus to people-to-people cooperation in the Mediterranean by showcasing successful initiatives promoted by the civil society across the Euro-Mediterranean region on priority areas such as Climate Change action, water, local development, social inclusion, job creation, gender equality and youth empowerment.
