The 2nd Steering Committee of Co-Evolve4BG was held nine months after its start in a virtual way due to COVID-19 situation. The meeting was dedicated to present the progress on the studying phase of the project, particularly on the identification of impacts (threats) and opportunities (enabling factors) at Mediterranean scale and at pilot areas scale. Co-Evolve4BG’s activities will be implemented in the seven pre-selected pilot coastal areas (Hergla-Monastir region (Tunisia); Djerba (Tunisia); Circeo National Park (Italy); Alexandroupoli and Samothraki (Greece); Murcia (Spain); Batroun (Lebanon); (Tyre (Palestine)); and each area will focus its actions on specific pre-identified challenges.

The tourism sustainability toolkit, which is one of the key tools that will be used for the upcoming testing phase, was also introduced to the partners and its implementation will be analysed during the next technical meeting. 

This meeting was a relevant point for pilot areas to move forward in the analysis the co-evolution of human activities and natural systems in touristic coastal areas, facing climate change effects and allowing sustainable development of touristic activities, in coexistence and synergy with other uses of the coastal and marine space and resources.

A further objective of the meeting was to introduce the participatory approach; Emilia-Romagna Region (as associated partner of the Co-Evolve4BG project) presented the importance of the participatory process for the sustainable development of touristic activities. During the meeting, the importance of stakeholders characterization, the main steps towards stakeholders mapping and some examples of decision-making tools were presented.

The progress of the communication activities as well as an update on ongoing Euro-Med key initiatives related to the project were presented during the meeting by Valenciaport Foundation, leader of the project communication.
