This article forms part of a series of publications under Medusa project, where we present projects related to ours around the Mediterranean (“sister projects”). We always aim to join forces, find synergies and make a change all together!

TheRout_Net is a strategic project funded by the Interreg V-A Greece-Italy Programme 2014/2020 that aims to enhance a regional System of Itineraries and Routes that will support the development of slow tourism across the cross-border area.Puglia Region - Department of Tourism, Economy of Culture and Valorization of Territory is partner beneficiary of the project with a budget of € 11.163.250,00. The other project partners are Region of Epirus, Region of Western Greece, Region of Ionian Islands and Ephorate of Antiquities of Achaea.In Puglia the valorization will be achieved through the executive design, restoration, refurbishment, and equipment of 8 public structures to be adapted as hostels, intended as multifunctional structures for hosting tourists, cultural and educational centers, info points and tourist services supply:

• The Gargano National Park Authority: Fairytale Rail and Hostel
  The aim of the project is to reuse in part the trail of “Decauville” that was used to transport woods through the Park.
• Municipality of Monte Sant’Angelo: Former Library Hostel
  The former library from the early Twentieth is situated in the heart of the old town, a strategic area for slow tourists and walking lovers.
• Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani: Bonomo Foundation Hostel
  Bonomo Foundation is a building complex from the early twentieth century on the slopes of Castel del Monte.
• Municipality of Ruvo di Puglia: Church of S. Matteo and Benedictine Monastery Hostel
  The monastery, built next to the medieval old Church of San Matteo, is a strategic point to visit the old town.
• Municipality of Brindisi: Former Youth Hostel
  The construction of the eighties, already a hostel, then abandoned, is situated in a strategic area that connects the old town to the seaside.
• Municipality of Minervino di Lecce: Former Primary School – Borgo Specchia Gallone Hostel
  The school building, dating back to the second post-war period, is located along the Route to Vaste-Santa Maria di Leuca.
• Municipality of Otranto: Former House of the Lighthouse Keeper, Punta Palascia Lighthouse
  The former house of the lighthouse keeper is part of the Punta Palascia Lighthouse area that is the most easterly part of Italy representing a point of rare natural beauty.
• Municipality of Putignano: “Urban Laboratory” Hostel
  The "Ex Macello” (former slaughterhouse) consists of a series of structures with different functions that were used as cultural laboratories related to long-established tradition of carnivals and papier-mâché.
